Black Salt Audio Telos Drums Review:
Black Salt Audio Telos Drums is an all-in-one drum mixing plugin designed to simplify the process of getting polished, professional drum sounds. Developed by Black Salt Audio, this plugin combines EQ, compression, saturation, clipping, and tone shaping into a single streamlined interface. Instead of building long plugin chains and spending hours tweaking settings, Telos Drums focuses on delivering fast, mix-ready results with minimal effort. One of the biggest strengths of Telos Drums is its simplicity. The plugin is designed around an intuitive workflow where users can shape drum sounds using easy musical controls instead of complicated technical parameters.
This makes it approachable for beginners while still being powerful enough for experienced producers and mix engineers. The philosophy behind the plugin is to encourage users to “mix with their ears, not their eyes,” helping maintain creativity during production. Telos Drums includes seven dedicated processing modes tailored for different parts of a drum kit, including kick, snare top, snare bottom, toms, cymbals, and room microphones. Each mode automatically adjusts the internal processing to suit the selected drum element, which helps users achieve better results without needing deep technical knowledge. This smart approach allows producers to quickly enhance clarity, punch, and energy across an entire drum mix.
The sound quality is another major highlight. The plugin delivers punchy, modern drum tones with impressive clarity and weight. The built-in compression adds impact without sounding harsh, while the saturation section introduces warmth and character that helps drums stand out in a mix. Features like transparent clipping and oversampling also contribute to a cleaner and louder final sound. A particularly useful feature is the “SLAM” mode available in Room processing, which pushes the compressor harder for explosive drum room sounds. This is ideal for rock, metal, pop, and cinematic productions where aggressive and energetic drum tones are important. At the same time, the plugin can also handle more controlled and balanced sounds for softer genres, making it versatile across different styles of music.
Performance-wise, Telos Drums is optimized for real-time use and integrates smoothly with major DAWs in VST3, AU, and AAX formats. The lightweight design ensures users can run multiple instances without heavily impacting system performance. This makes it practical for both home studios and professional production environments. Overall, Black Salt Audio Telos Drums stands out as a fast, effective, and user-friendly drum mixing solution. It removes much of the technical complexity traditionally associated with drum processing while still delivering professional-quality sound. For producers who want quick results without sacrificing tone and impact, Telos Drums is a highly impressive option.
